Who can get a CHP in Colorado?

Be at least 21 years old

Be a resident of Colorado

Demonstrate the necessary training and knowledge to handle a handgun safely

Not be ineligible to possess a firearm under state or federal law

If you are a legal resident of Colorado or a member of the armed forces on permanent duty at a military installation in Colorado, you can obtain a CHP from a local county sheriff's office.
What do I bring to class?

Valid State issued ID/ Drivers License

Something to take notes with (ipad, pen, paper...)

Eye protection, hearing protection, close toed shoes

Your firearm and 50 rounds of ammo
Do I need a firearm, ear and eye protection?
We have some for rent, no problem.
What if I fail the written and/or shooting qualification?
You must pass to both to obtain the certificate. The written test is open book, and we give you two tries. Pay attention and you should have little problem. The shooting qualification. You also will have two tries, then we will schedule some one on one class time to help you pass (additional cost may apply).
